O, the night was worth a candle
To talk a while among good friends.

-Tempest

My friends, those who have made me insane, I expect, but also the ones who make life not only bearable but fun, are probably the most important things in my life, with the exception of my family. They're always there to laugh with me (or at me, when necessary), to cheer me up when I'm in a bad mood, or enjoy the times with me when I'm not. They're there for all the same reasons that I'm there for them. I hope that they never forget how much they mean to me. Anyways, this is, in no particular order, a list of several of the premier people I consider friends.
My roommate for the past year, and probably my best friend for a year or so before that, Drea has without a doubt read more of my pesonal writings than anyone else on the face of this earth, as well as knowing more of my dreams (as in those things that happen at night, not the things you want to happen one day). She was the first to finish reading my book, and is still trying to force me to work more on its sequal. She is psychotic, undoubtedly insane, and when she's not singing she's meowing- sometimes barking. (To her credit, she has not yet, to my knowledge, screamed like a dying rabbit.) To sum her up in one line (slightly misquoted, but from one of my own works, so I'm allowed), "She's a bard. Bards travel around getting drunk, getting into fights, making nasty songs about people they don't like, and sleeping with half the people they see."

Robin is more frequently more cheerful than anybody else it is my honor to know. She has, of course, bad days, but ninety-nine percent of the time, if not more, is a joy to be around, cheerful, happy, and helping everyone else around to match her mood. She's also a gifted artist, and the self-portrait to the right here is fairly accurate, although the coloring is a bit off. She is also one of the few people I know who will not be grown up even at seventy. Not that I'm saying she's immature- she isn't. But she manages to meld the absolute pleasure in life and fun of a child and the maturity of an adult perfectly, so she can be very mature- and she can run around with purple mud on her face whooping loudly. Robin is also one of the most definite chocoholics that I know (which is strange because the other Robin I know is also adores chocolate...) and would kill or die for chocolate. She is probably also the only person I know who will, the first time she meets someone, greet them with, "Thou art as full of bullshit as an egg is of meat." Anyway, to sum her up... probably the best line to define her is, "I only look sweet and innocent."
What can I say about Sean? I consider him one of my closest friends, even though I've never met him real life. He has always been there when I needed him, and sometimes seems to have almost a pschic link the way once or twice he's called (at international rates, at that) just when I most needed to talk to somebody. On the lighter side, he has a sick mind, when he cares to use it (which is a very large percentage of the time, though rather less around me than it is around Drea or Robin), and occasionally questionable taste. For himself he provided a quote, since I was having a bit of difficulty with my summing up. "In order to be out of the gutter I must look upwards first, and when I do I see the wretched face of the world that demoralizes life, so why leave? Dig deep, and quickly!"
Leah is one of the most gifted writers I know, and one of the worst at admitting it. I've read only a couple things by her, but look forward to getting ahold of more (hint, hint, nudge, nudge, if you're out there, Leah). She's one of the five friends that I kind of got connected with my junior year of high school, thanks, entirely, to Drea, who got us all together. Herself, Robin and Drea, who I've already mentioned, and Chiara and Josh, who are coming next. She's also a gifted musician and a rping video game nut- her favorite by ages being Chrono Trigger, though I have managed to convince her (mostly by getting her attached to the characters) that Phantasy Star IV is worth playing as well.

Josh is, as I mentioned, one of our little group of six friends- and the only male among us, at that. I have the honor to be the only one of the girls who does not pummel Josh to the brink of oblivion. He is the punching bag, life-size teddy bear, and a great friend. All of which he puts up with amazingly well- only occasionally screaming and running away when he sees one of us coming, rather than catching us in a bear hug. He's also a great dungeonmaster, as well as a master of more computer and video games than I can imagine, and great at pretty much anything and everything having to do with computers. The line that comes to mind while thinking of Josh is, "He's not a guy! He's Josh!" Which, of course, is only from the viewpoint of the five of us- to the rest of the world he's still a guy- if an amazingly sweet one.
Then we have Chiara. Without a doubt the most serious of us, but definitely loosening up the more time she spends in our company- why she's recently even been heard to say that she enjoys feeling relaxed! Anyway, Chiara is definitely an academian, and will probably succeed with honors at everything she ever tries, because once she decides to do a athing, she throws herself entirely into it. She and Leah are twin sisters which, though you can't tell, really from their personalities, becomes, all the same, apparent when you watch them together. There's a definite bond. Chiara also has a gift for taking control of any situation, which I expect will serve her well in years to come. To sum her up in a line, what can I use but the one line we hear her say the most frequently? "Do not tell me to relax!"

Renfield is a true friend in every sense of the word. He is my self-appointed, but welcome, temporary knight in shining armor, and his armor does shine. He's always there to pick me up when I fall into the depths of depression, often with beautiful and ornate (and occasionally even true) compliments that could boost an ego fallen much further than mine. Hm... I'm trying to think of a way to describe him, and the only thing I can think of, is to say that he is proof that chivalry is truly not dead. Ren always treats me, and every other girl I've seen him with in any of his forms, as a lady. He would be the one to put his cloak atop the mud puddle for a lady to step across, or to draw a sword and charge off to complete any quest he found Right and Honorable. A line... A line... I can't think of one right now... Maybe I'll add one in another day.
Not so very long ago, on a quiet day on Midnight Sanctuary, a discussion on books and authors popped up which I, of course, had to immediately join. After all, it's one of the few things that I know plenty about. In the course of this conversation, people slowly dropped out as they ran out of books- or maybe they just got bored, that's possible, too, until there were really only two of us left. We started talking of other things, on less public channels, and found that we really have a lot in common. Since then, John and I have become fairly close friends, and it seems absolutely impossible that we have known one another only for so long as we have. We've had some extremely long and wonderful phone conversations roaming from nothing to everything to zork, which is everything and nothing at the same time, and then leaping back to a point we didn't quite finish with fifteen minutes ago and (and this is the amazing part) not losing each other when we do. Everyone needs as many friends they can do that with as they can get.

And one of my bestest friends on Midnight Sanctuary, mage, ruler of all he surveys, and all around great guy, is Rtd. Even if he did resent me when we were first acquainted, cuz I was leveled faster'n him for absolutely no reason. But now that he's passed me he's forgiven me and all is well in the world *wink*. Rtd's the current imp on MS, and I for one hope he'll continue to be for a good long time, cuz it's the best the MUD's ever looked. Besides that, he's a great friend and one of the first names I look for when I log on, to chat with. He's always willing to listen, and gives me a chance to listen, too! And he's one of the main reasons why the Sanctuary remains my primary (by a LONG shot) mud.
Hm... about a year and a half ago, I got one of the few emails that ever came in regarding my web page, from the form on it, signed by Silrathi. We were slightly acquainted on Midnight Sanctuary, but not closely, so that was the first real communication between us. It quickly flourished (What can I say? I like being told my page is mesmerizing), and before long we were close friends. Since then, we've grown only closer. We finish each others thoughts if we don't just say them first, see the jokes that nobody else gets, and talk about almost everything. When I'm depressed, Sil cheers me up, when I'm lonely he comforts me, and when I'm up past my bedtime he makes me log off *grin*. He always knows the right thing to say at the right time.
